In memory of....

This is an extension of Jess' ribbon rant.
I can understand someone grieving. I can understand a memorial of some sort to honor someone who has passed away. But what is with the "In Loving Memory of..." stickers in everyone's car windows????
My first thought is that the person died and they bought the hot new wheels with the insurance money. How can a vehicle (which depreciates by 20% just because you bought it) be a worthy memorial to someone's memory.
I honestly don't know what they are about. Are they like a ribbon, in that they are in support of a cause? Are these words of remembrance for someone killed by a drunk driver? Please inform me because I find them offensive.
Grieving is normal. Advertising it in the window of your SUV while you hurtle down the Interstate is not.
